Professional Biography
In response to Dr. Christopher Bengson's dedication to the care of the underserved and his national policy contributions to the dermatologic care of Native Americans, Dr. Bengson has been awarded two Outstanding Service Medals & received the Indian Health Service Director’s Award for clinical health leadership. In 2017, Dr. Bengson was appointed as the Indian Health Service’s first Chief Clinical Consultant for dermatology.
Dr. Bengson attended medical school at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD where he completed additional course work in Emergency Military Medicine and Military Contingency Medicine. Dr. Bengson then went on complete his internship in Internal Medicine at Franklin Square Medical Center in Baltimore, MD followed by his Dermatology residency at the Johns Hopkins Hospital.
Prior to his medical career, Dr. Bengson received his undergraduate degree in Natural Sciences with concentrations in Biology and Anthropology from Johns Hopkins University. He then earned his Master’s degree in Health Policy from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. He started his public health career working in philanthropy through The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and then the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. He subsequently transitioned to private healthcare consulting with the Barents Group Health Economic Practice and KPMG Consulting for several years before deciding to attend medical school.
Outside of dermatology, Dr. Bengson enjoys spending his free time with his wife, 9 children, and 1 grandchild. He also enjoys studying and teaching martial arts to his children.
