Dermaplaning
Dermaplaning is a gentle, non-invasive exfoliating treatment that instantly smooths and brightens the complexion.
Dermaplaning is a gentle, non-invasive exfoliating treatment that uses a sterile surgical blade to remove dead skin cells and fine vellus hair (commonly known as “peach fuzz”) from the surface of the skin. This treatment instantly smooths and brightens the complexion, enhances product absorption, and creates a flawless canvas for makeup application. Suitable for most skin types, dermaplaning leaves your skin feeling soft, refreshed, and radiant with no downtime.
If dull, rough, or tired-looking skin is a concern for you, dermaplaning may be a simple place to start. With our location in Phoenix, an appointment is just a short drive away.
What Is Dermaplaning Used For?
Dermaplaning is one of the most versatile treatments we offer because it addresses surface-level concerns without irritation or recovery time. It is suitable for most skin types and can be repeated every four to six weeks.
Your provider may recommend dermaplaning if you are looking to address:
- Dull, tired-looking skin
- Rough or dry texture
- Uneven skin tone
- Unwanted fine facial hair
- Congestion and buildup in the pores
- Makeup that applies unevenly or appears cakey
What to Expect
By clearing away the outermost layer of dead skin, dermaplaning supports your skin’s natural rate of cellular turnover and reveals a fresher, healthier surface underneath. Most patients notice a difference immediately after a single treatment.
Removing vellus hair offers an added benefit. Fine facial hair traps oil, dirt, and dead skin cells against the surface, and clearing it away helps reduce the buildup that contributes to dullness and congestion. Skincare products absorb more readily, cleansers work more effectively, and makeup applies more smoothly and wears longer.
Dermaplaning also pairs well with other in-office treatments. Because it removes the barrier of dead skin at the surface, it is often performed before a chemical peel or a hydrating facial to help those treatments penetrate more evenly.
Am I a Candidate for Dermaplaning?
Most patients are good candidates for dermaplaning, including those with sensitive skin who may not tolerate more aggressive exfoliation. Because no chemicals or heat are involved, it is also a common choice during pregnancy.
Dermaplaning is not recommended if you have active, inflamed acne, an open lesion, or a current flare of a condition such as eczema or rosacea in the treatment area. In those cases, your provider will recommend addressing the underlying concern first and revisiting dermaplaning once your skin has settled.
One common question worth answering directly: removing vellus hair does not cause it to grow back thicker, darker, or coarser. Vellus hair returns at its original texture over the following weeks.
